After a while of contemplating and researching today i took the wife on a trip to Southampton to visit Collette and her lovely collection of trees.

I walked away with a Chinese elm and a fuchsia mycrophyllia to look after for the foreseeable future.

I am brand new to bonsai and am looking forward to trying different things. A few days ago I stumbled upon a Japanese holly at a garden centre on sale for a couple of quid. I bought it and have subsequently "pruned" it and trimmed the roots. I have potted it in a seedling tray which is roughly right, probably a bit big but it's all just for me to learn.

Hopefully I'm not going to kill anything and I look forward to gaining as much info and knowledge as I can.

Pictures may follow it i can get them to show.

Cheers all,

Hi and welcome.

There is a bonsai club in Salisbury, or we have some members who live in Durrington who attend the club in Swindon. If you need detail, just ask.

Hopefully we will see you at the Swindon 'Winter Image' bonsai show in Swindon on Sunday the 25th Feb. loads of exhibits and traders selling everything you could want for the hobby........ https://swindon-bonsai.co.uk/winter-show/

Look awesome. I like the cascade style, the Mrs isn't. I suppose, given the nature of bonsai, I could gradually train a cascade without her noticing?
