Hi folks. Have decided to dip my toe into the bonsai pond. Very into growing stuff in my allotment for the last 18 years, but have since had a back opp, so am unable to look after the ground as I used to. Have decide to keep the plot and plant out a few young trees to allow me to keep my hand in at growing things, and maybe even to style and shape a couple. WITH ALL your help and guidance of course.

Have been browsing this and other forums for over a year now and at long last decided to register.

Welcome to weetrees.

I've an allotment that I only use for growing trees - so I'm with you on that. What species do you have in mind? You might also want get a few trees already in pots so you can practice and hone your styling skills.

Hi Gary. Decided to use the allotment as I was already the plot holder, and 'er indoors has already decided that instead of me giving it up she will be sowing some runners and french beans. The fact that I can no longer dig that easily seems to have passed her by. As said before I enjoy tending growing things, so a little while ago I thought I would like to give bonsai a go. Have got some Cotoneaster, Berberis, and a couple of small Yew kicking around the plot in pots so I thought I could plant them into the beds to grow on and get a bit bigger.

My neighbour at the foot of our garden has just erected a wood fence, so I now have the choice of digging up 6 or 7 old Privet that used to form the hedge boundary.

Privet are tough things and grow well so they should be easy to establish after lifting and you can have a lot of fun with them. If you can get them I'd recommend taking them and trying out lots of different things on them.
