Post subject:  Hello, this is me!

My mum bought me a bonsai grow kit from Plant Theatre for christmas 2016, and i could not wait to grow my bonsai...

Four pine trees sprouted up from seed, then they died as soon as i repotted them, probably my fault somehow, I am not the most green fingered person on this planet that is for certain, however I am no quitter.

So I bought a chinese elm bonsai from ebay, and one year later she is still going strong, so healthy, and I simply adore her!

Since then I have got 4 scots pine that are currently wired up and doing well, and intend to get a few more, maybe grow some from seed from any reputable dealers.

So I live in Norfolk, with my sheepdog Twinkle and my cat Mylowe, a garden full of birds and a car that is about to fall apart at any moment lol my passion is photography, has been for the past 30 years or more now, a few more! In my spare time i love playing my ukulele, and occasionally go to gigs to see bands like Sigur Ros, Blanck Mass, UB40, Damien Rice etc, very much into synthwave music, anything ambient and peaceful, like Brian Eno or Enya, and sometimes loud and noisy like Igorr or Venetian Snares.

I also read a lot, and i am currently working in a cafe for a local homeless charity, and i can make a mean mocha =)

Oh, and dreamcatcher refers to my other hobby, which is lucid dreaming, something that took me 3 years to achieve, and something i now hold dear to me, to wake up within a dream is such a thrill, even now after 18 months of conscious dreaming, i am very passionate about this and simply love having lucid dreams almost nightly.

I dont watch television, dont read newspapers, but very much into current affairs and politics, but that is not something i need go into in a forum such as this, whole can'o'worms that lol

Welcome to weetrees and to Bonsai

Don't worry too much about the failure of the seeds - it's quite common you can always try again although cheap smaller trees might save you 5 years or more years of growing.

Glad your chinese elm is thriving - please show us a picture - we love pictures here. CE is often sold as a beginners tree as it's so durable and robust, but with it's small leaves and fine twigging its also is one of the best species for Bonsai so hopefully you'll get years of enjoyment from it.

Welcome along, I'm a ukulele player too mate. Do you use any herbs to aid lucid dreaming or is it simply through meditation? Fascinating, I've had lucid dreams but not by intention

Welcome to Bonsai and this forum.

As others have said, growing Bonsai from seed is very difficult. I see like me that you are based in Norfolk. Why not check out the Norfolk Bonsai Association's website and Facebook page? We we will be having an auction of Bonsai material in May, everything from young saplings to specimen trees and pots, tools etc. I have posted links to our pages below.

Hey all, thank you for the lovely welcomes, appreciated!

The ukulele, only took it up because my guitar playing was abysmal, i could not do bar chords to save my life, fingers too feeble lol so i went to the ukes and never looked back, i even made my own after some trial and error, as well as making hybrid ukes using violin bodies with uke necks, cigar box ukes etc, and i recently went on stage during an open mic night at the cafe where i work, i performed the Cranberries song No Need To Argue in the style of the late great robert nesta marley, which for me was hard as i have a speech impediment, cleft pallet etc, but i enjoyed it and it made everyone laugh, which was intentional, uke players are not as serious as other string players!

As for lucid dreaming, it took me 3 years to get there, i read every book on the subject, got mentored by Charlie Morley, practised mindfullness daily, meditation and yoga also played a part in it, and even though i had doubts that lucid dreaming was a real thing, because for the longest time i thought it was all BS, i did eventually have a fully lucid dream, though fleeting, as were the first 3 or 4 times, but then i began to calm myself when lucid, as the excitement was causing me to wake up too soon. At first i could only fly by telling myself i was composed of helium, but now i can fly any way i want too, usually like Will Smith does in the film Hancock... I have spoken to trees, that is actually one of my fav things to do in dreams, talk to things that have no way to communicate! I will say this, lucid dreaming makes you question reality so much, but aside from the deep stuff, it is also so much fun and very liberating!

The photography has always been there for me, took my first photo on mydads kodak disc camera when i was about 5 or 6, and i have been hooked ever since! I was professional for a few years, family events, weddings, freelance for the local newspaper, then i accidentally got into fashion and glamour photography, which i did for about 5 years until i got disillusioned with it all and walked away from it, now photography is just a hobby, i shoot birds, small garden birds as well as my favourites, Red Kites, which are plentiful round here now, along with conceptual self portraits, fine art erotica, some fetish photography and occasionally landscapes around the norfolk coastline!

Not a member of any groups but i do know they are around, the closest one is probably yhe wisbech bonsai club, i live just on the cambs/lincs/norfolk border so this could be my local, they meet once a month in nearby Newton i believe, might pay them a visit one evening and hopefully learn something!

As for the bonsai, its a nice relaxing hobby that gives me a lot of joy and is teaching me a lot about plants as i really am the least green fingered person around, i am terrible in that respect, but i am willing to learn and rarely make the same mistakes twice!
