Post subject:  Would you keep this?

Hi for a few years I have been interested in bonsai but dont have a lot of spare time.I have been collecting trees for a few years hoping that when I have the time I can learn to style them etc.
I now have a lot of sticks in pots and think I should probably start to reduce the numbers just keeping the ones that have the potential to be a bonsai one day.
I was hoping that if I posted a few pics you guys could please let me know which ones had potential and which I should set free in a hedge I need to plant this winter.
Thanks!

Definitely a keeper.
Nice nebari , good low grow, usable movement.

I’d keep that, though I’d probably reduce the height considerably

Probably not far above the first large branch on the right. Hard to say without the tree in front of you though.

Sorry I realised that it might have been better to ask these questions in a different bit of the site.
Here is a pine I rescued last year. Do you think it has potential?

Well, it most probably won't ever win any competitions. The thing to remember, is that you'll never know unless you try. Again it has growth coming from low down, with some movement, so it's a basis to start with. If you have space, it worth experimenting with anything you can get hold of. In time with practice and experience you'll find out what you can and can't do. It's better to kill something that was never going to amount to much, rather than kill your best tree through lack of experience.
