All keepers in my opinion, all look like they are ready for some work

If this were mine, I'd want the trunk a bit thicker (3.5-5cm), so I'd be thinking about getting it in the ground for a couple of years.
If possible, get it somewhere with good sun and leave it alone to hopefully push out a ton of buds/branches that will help bulk it up.
I'd probably wait until Spring, and get it on a board to develop a good nebari.

All the material can be made into something approaching a bonsai IF you really want to and are prepared to spend many years getting there. It may be better to work with material that is more promising from the start.

The elm you describe as a potential raft looks the most interesting of the elms. None of the others grab me as having much interest based on these photographs - the story might be different looking at the tree in person.

A good test of whether it should go in the hedge or on your bench, is whether you'd buy the material if you saw it for £50 at a show or in nursery.

The Yew is straight but that's not always a bad thing - they can make a nice formal upright style. The big whorl of branches near the top needs some thinking about.

The Pine actually looks quite promising to me. It has some signs of maturity in the bark, and some low branching to work with. There's a decent informal upright in there a few years down the line. It's very sparse at the moment, so your priority would be getting it vigorous and promoting back budding (there are a couple of threads on here with information about that). Based on what I can see in the picture, I'd be cutting off the main trunk at the point you have a large-ish vertical branch (around the edge of the 'pot'), and using that as the new leader. Again, can't say for sure from a photo though.

Thanks tom and everyone for the replies.
I have decided to try and make the time to do something with the trees so will be getting my saw out later.
I have loads more trees like these so am going to put some of the less interesting ones in the hedge, I can always pull them back out in a few years if i change my mind and the rabbits give them a bit more character!
Cheers

vandyl, it's also good to find a club or at least another bonsai mad local who you can bounce ideas, hints and tips off

I looked at all the pics of your trees. All of them have something going for them.

You really should find a way to have the pics appear in a larger size in your thread - I use flickr but there are others.

Then start a thread about each tree where you get the tree photographed from a few angles.
