Post subject:  An overdue introduction

I've just noticed it's been a year since I registered so thought I really should 'introduce' myself rather than just lurk and occasionally post.

I've always been a fan of bonsai and got an IKEA Crassula 'bonsai' about 20 years ago as a child but never really had an opportunity to develop my interest. That Jade Tree is still alive albeit not thriving.

A couple of years ago I visited Japan and the Bonsai village outside Tokyo and my interest was reawoken. I have since got a Ficus Retusa bonsai and have a number of pre-bonsai.

I generally find I have a tenancy to read all I can about a subject before tackling it so I'm maybe a little further ahead on Bonsai theory than I am on practice. I've been reading this forum with interest for most of the last year and have been inspired to have a go at a few things but plan to start in earnest come the spring. I currently live in East London so space to store even bonsai sized plants is tight. I should be moving to the country before too long so will be putting all sorts in the ground when I've got the space.

Maybe I'll post one of my projects in due course.

Anyway, thanks for accommodating a 'lurker' for so long.

Chris

Welcome along, yes its always nice to see a members projects. Spring is an exciting time of year, I don't even mind that I'm turning 30 in may, I'm just looking forward to seeing my trees grow again lol

Welcome to the forum even if it's a year overdue.

I know what you mean about wanting to know a subject before embarking on it but the best way to understand theory is to try to put it into practice. Best of luck with the projects.

Welcome. Have a go at some seriously hardy trees that don't need you to wait for the spring. For example Lonicera is 365 days of fun.

I am getting so good at bonsai I'll soon need a smaller garden.

Welcome, countryside = raw material.

Welcome, mate! I agree with the suggestions above- if you have space outside get some hardy trees to play around with, sow some chinese elm seeds, try some cuttings/air layers, and go dig something up too :). You'll have loads of material to practise that theory on in no time!
