Evening all.

Joined this wonderful forum a month or so ago. It's given me many hours of fascinated and happy reading. Thanks.

Like many people my first was a Chinese Elm. Bought for me by my wife about 18 months ago. As it's still alive I decided to get some more. An Ilex, Zanthoxylum and Ligustrum have joined the fold. All bought because they were described as easy to keep.

There's a bonsai society near me. Wessex Bonsai Society. Last Sunday I went to a workshop and was completely amazed at what I saw. Tiny flowering things, huge bits of Box and Hawthorn (I think).

Someone there looked at my four little (and probably not very interesting) trees and advised on pruning without laughing at me. Lovely people. I've now become a member.

This Sunday I'm off to the Heathrow show. Not planning on buying anything, looking on it as a learning experience.

Something tells me this new interest could become all consuming!

65 next month. Seems as good a time as any to discover a new obsession!

Hi. No walk in the woods will ever be the same again.

Welcome to bonsai. Is it fair to say bonsai is to gardening what golf is to sport?
