My wife Deborah and I had thought about getting one or two bonsai to add some life to the edge of our Koi pond, we never really did anything about it as any we came across seemed very expensive. On a trip to the local garden center we were suprised by a display of Bonsai with many that looked attractive and didn't cost an arm and a leg so after careful study of the labels we bought a couple!
You might think that at fifty two I would have known better than to impulse buy, I guess there is no age limit for stupidity.We came away with a Chinese Elm (Zelkova) with a nice lump of rock and a "cute little house"
which would seem to be a fair choice for a beginner and a Tree Of a Thousand Stars (Serissa Foetida) which appears may not have been a wise purchase.The pond they were bought to enhance is 13000 litres, fully enclosed and currently heated to 20C, in winter the water temperature is 8 to 10C the air temperature will be slightly lower. Given that there is plenty of light and high humidity I am hopeful that my new charges will thrive although I guess the Serissa will need to be housed in the Bathroom or Kitchen during the Winter months.
When I sort some pictures out I will post them for some expert opinion.
