Out walking in my local Beech woods over the weekend I was really surprised at the number of fungi to be found in a very small area. One of the older trees, still living but definitely not long for this world was the host of large amounts of a bracket fungus.

It was, however, on the forest floor they were most abundant. You couldn't walk more than a few feet without seeing them. Every stump from last ears felling was covered in yellowy white fungi in huge colonies.

Very pretty. Not a good sign if found on bonsai dead wood of course. :1crybaby:

They were making short work of the tree stumps. I don't think you'll even notice the trees had been there in a couple of years. Although they weren't getting it all their own way.

I've just removed something like this from one of my privet stumps. The lime sulpher is coming out soon.

Hope it wasn’t something like that Gary or I don’t rate your chances. It seems like a good year for fungi or bad depending on your perspective.

I'd be using a systemic fungicide to try to protect the live tissue.

Thank you Roger. I couldn't believe how many there were in about 100m sq of woodland. They weren't all one type either. This isn't all. There were a few more like the Bachelors Button of which I didn't manage to get a picture. I think Beech woodland must be one of the best for fungi.

They are all the usual suspects for beech woods. I have see most of them , after a warm damp spell they soon appear. Great pix too!
