Out walking in my local Beech woods over the weekend I was really surprised at the number of fungi to be found in a very small area. One of the older trees, still living but definitely not long for this world was the host of large amounts of a bracket fungus. 20171015_113656 by Sputnik184, on FlickrIt was, however, on the forest floor they were most abundant. You couldn't walk more than a few feet without seeing them. Every stump from last ears felling was covered in yellowy white fungi in huge colonies. 20120101_010650 by Sputnik184, on Flickr 20120101_010034 by Sputnik184, on Flickr 20120101_011044 by Sputnik184, on Flickr 20120101_010605 by Sputnik184, on Flickr 20120101_011651 by Sputnik184, on Flickr 20120101_011510 by Sputnik184, on Flickr 20120101_005831 by Sputnik184, on Flickr

Very pretty. Not a good sign if found on bonsai dead wood of course.

I don't think you'll even notice the trees had been there in a couple of years. Although they weren't getting it all their own way. 20120101_005929 by Sputnik184, on Flickr

I've just removed something like this from one of my privet stumps. The lime sulpher is coming out soon. |

Thank you Roger. I couldn't believe how many there were in about 100m sq of woodland. They weren't all one type either. This isn't all. There were a few more like the Bachelors Button of which I didn't manage to get a picture. I think Beech woodland must be one of the best for fungi. 20171015_113014 by Sputnik184, on Flickr 20120101_004052 by Sputnik184, on Flickr 20120101_003602 by Sputnik184, on Flickr 20120101_004941 by Sputnik184, on Flickr 20120101_003338 by Sputnik184, on Flickr 20120101_002814 by Sputnik184, on Flickr 20120101_002136 by Sputnik184, on Flickr 20120101_001730 by Sputnik184, on Flickr 20120101_001705 by Sputnik184, on Flickr 20120101_000616 by Sputnik184, on Flickr 20120101_000523 by Sputnik184, on Flickr

They are all the usual suspects for beech woods. I have see most of them , after a warm damp spell they soon appear. Great pix too! |
