As a big user of the tesco cat litter, I now have the worrying situation of looking elsewhere too.

If you want moler clay with smaller particles than Sanicat, you could try some of the smaller sized horticultural moler from Kaizen. That's closer in size to the Tesco stuff.

Oh.. wow I never looked at everything they have..
https://www.kaizenbonsai.com/moler-fine ... wing-media

This looks exactly the same as Tesco stuff.. am I crazy here? Can anyone else who uses it comment? This looks identical. It’s like kaizen are buying Tesco stuff and rebranding it!! (I’m sure it’ll work out much more expensive).

Can anyone else comment on this? It looks perfect. Thanks Tom.
Sorry I feel stupid for never having looked at this page:

Conor, tesco/sanicat got the molar clay from the same supplier that kaizen do. They added some scent to it, kaizen doesn't. The kaizen stuff is 'certified for horticultural use'. The mesh size might be slightly different. Other than that, it is EXACTLY the same material.

I've been investigating the antibacterials used in CL. There isn't much information but Bob Martin's says it uses Byotrol. So I contacted the company direct and asked them what effect it would have on plant roots. They came back to me, and admitted it's never been tested on plant roots! Not very reassuring.

I can't get Sanicat pink where I live, but I have used Catsan blue with no adverse results. Anyway, I've decided to test it. My plan is to sow seeds in Catsan, as it is, also in rinsed , and finally after it's been soaked.
I shall keep a record of what happens and take photos.

That's thorough. Well done. Looking forwards to hearing your findings.

Thanks Darreng. Going to try it out.
I’ve not looked at size / cost yet, I just assume kaizen is more expensive, but as long as it’s all good.

I have used the original tesco cat litter and I also use akadama for my better trees or trees that I am not progressing. I also use Seramis , for my indoor tees and also mixed in with the akadama. Although the seramis is expensive it does not appear to break down. Does anyone else use Seramis. ??

Thank you Penny Ann. I do like this kind of home-research.

Yes - Tesco low dust cat litter looks about 2-3mm IMO. It's quite fine and would work best for smaller trees/containers.
