I've had the best bonsai year yet and I've had to think long and hard about this and here is where I'm at. 3rd, Collecting the most epic hawthorn back in February. Its so good I've named it. 2nd, Spending an unforgettable 4 days with my very good friends including a very talented Spanish master. Attachment: davidsvisit3.JPG 1st, Exhibiting my Prunus Spinosa at the 6th Bonsai-San Show in Saulieu. I truly humbling moment I never thought I'd experience. A nice change from the 'trees stuck up against a fence along one or two sides of the garden' like many of us do. |

In no order... Rescuing a poorly grown chinese elm from a garden centre, watching it progress. Appreciating trees more than i ever have, and i have always loved nature as far back as i can remember, collecting acorns and fir cones as a kid, climbing trees and generally having fun with them, i now see them in a whole new light. And taking bonsai a bit more seriously than last year =) |

Getting feedback on some of my trees from you lot that helped to reassure me that I'm doing some things right. Not buying too much crap material Getting rid of some plants I wasn't too keen on (Wisteria, Ginkgo, 3x young beech, tray of Crassula rooted cuttings) as well as a couple of deaths that I'm not too sad about (Beech, Corokia Cotoneaster, Euonymus Japonica, Salvia - not even a good species for bonsai for some of these!) |

Sad when a tree dying lets you of off the hook of wanting to get rid of it. It's probably happened to a few of us. |
