Hi

The year is coming to an end. It's time to look back and celebrate 2018. What were your best 2018 bonsai moments?

Here are mine:
- Meeting face to face quite a few of you - each time a real pleasure, very nice and helpful people
- Building a three tier bonsai stand with the help of my son
- Hearing more praise about my trees than I ever had (I must be doing something good)

Your turn...

:Big Thumb:

For me (off the top of my head - there are many other choices)

- positive comments on my beech group
- styling and wiring my JBP which has come out rather nicely IMO.
- receiving a lovely cork bark elm as a gift from a friend whose trees I watered whilst he was on holiday.

1. A successful 2018 Winter Image show without any problems

2. Managing to keep most of my trees alive, even though a few gave in to the hot weather

3. Attending a few great workshops during the year, including a pottery day with David from Walsall, ended up with a very nice pot

My biggest highlight has to be being offered the opportunity to have one of my trees included in the FOBBS display at Chelsea this year. Not only a privilege but a fantastic day spent on the stand talking with members of the public from all corners of the world.

My second highlight was taking the plunge and taking a stall at the Heathrow Bonsai show to sell my scroll paintings. I had a lot of encouragement from internet friends to pluck up the courage and had lots of great feedback from hobbyists while I was there. (And I sold quite a few too  )

My third would be, as ever, just the absolute pleasure that I get from my trees every day of the year, nurturing them, learning about them and watching them develop from season to season and year to year.

Seeing my collected stumpy hawthorn survive its first year .
Styling a chamaecyparis without any help or advice and actually making a nice job of it .
Getting my garden sorted out to display the trees .

my first highlight was showing a tree at the heathrow show
my second was actually making a root stand at greenwoods with the excellent tuition of Sean Smith
and last but not least managing to keep all my trees in tip top condition all through the very hot summer

1. Thankful for the time to design projects while they're still attached to my stock plants. Something I've not really been able to do effectively before.

2. Doing a spring clean of excess trees and gaining more space for higher quality stuff.

3. It looks like my hawthorn is setting flowering spurs for next season which sounds weird but I was so happy when I saw them when all the leaves fell off a few weeks ago.

1)Getting 99.9% of my trees through a cold winter, a hot summer and a move.

2)Succeeding in improving what I have already rather than being tempted by much new stuff.

3)Letting the above two successes allow me to spend my money on new pots and stands.

1. Having 2 trees accepted by the club for the heathrow show. One of which I have grown from a cutting.
2. Feeling more confident in applying the skills I have learned.
3. Seeing better results across my trees in general .
