Hi Weetree-ers Funny how we all share the same passion but have different taste when it comes to styles. So, here is a little game to illustrate this point. In the style of the game "Snog, Marry, Avoid"; I propose that we play a game called "Like, Love or Avoid" based on the popular Bonsai styles. Let me start: Like: Forests (just magic, I like them all whether they're bonsai or "full size") Love: Literati (just totally ME) Avoid: Broom/Globe (I can't see the point of anything that symmetrical) How about you then? |

Like: root over rock - cant remember the last time i chucked a tree in the ground that wasn't on a rock! Love: clinging to a rock - spot the theme! Desperately need to get hold of more suitable rocks Avoid: forest- i like looking at decent specimens but cant be bothered to actually organise my own. Maybe one day |

Like: Formal Upright, Group Plantings Love: Literati, Informal Upright, Broom, Avoid: Cascades, Exposed Roots, Clump, Raft. Anything too manicured or artificial looking. I like my trees to look like trees. These styles are usually too dissimilar to the trees I'm used to in nature. Literati is the exception because they can look so impressive |

I wonder if this thread is also an eye opener on what swaps we could easily agree on Anyone want a broom jade on rock for a literati (or a forĂȘt if I push my luck)

Like: broom, informal upright, cascade (proper) Love: Pruning my deciduous in warm spring sunshine Avoid: Big fat white shari on conifers which would look better without. J. |
