I wondered where those ants were heading!! I first noticed it on my honeysuckle ( full sized) and then my flowering cherry Apple starting to get curly leaves, at least it pretty robust, so a gentle peel back of the leaves and a careful hose down inside them, and the seriously affected leave cut off and thrown in the water butt, seems to have sorted it for now at least, but of course I'm not holding my breath. I'm sure they'll be back later on in the season! I guess I should have realised earlier, when the flowering season seemed very short and then the procession of ants heading up / across the bench. Bloody things! At least there is some fruit starting to form. Thankfully, that and the honeysuckle seem to be the only things that have been affected. Anyone else suffering this year? I've never seen it this bad! ever! |

I get aphids on particular trees at a particular times. I find a single treatment (either chemical or manual) usually does the trick for the most part. I've had to deal with black fly on a crab apple and white fly on a beech so far. |

Seems to be a bad year for aphids in my garden too. All sorts affected and very few natural predators around yet. Seem to have a lot of red spider mites this year too. |

As I understand it, they are back in the late summer, laying eggs for the coming spring? sputnik wrote: Seems to be a bad year for aphids in my garden too. When we uncurled an aphid infested leaf at my friend's house recently, there were two ladybird larvae in there having a feast so I'm a bit wary now of cutting them off or spraying them. It's very tempting though because they look so gross |

One of my cherries is very badly effected by blackfly at the moment, and lots of ants doing exactly as described above. Oddly, we've been overrun by ladybirds through late Feb and March, but they've apparently become more scarce over the last month. |

Yes, I've got the lot this year, spider mites, aphids, white fly, scale and a lot of caterpillars... I squish the scale insects, but only sprayed a couple of vulnerable trees. I'm hoping the predators will balance things out soon. |

Blackfly are rampant in my garden too at the moment, just given everything a dose of bug clear ultra vine weevil killer, hope that fixes it |

I'm managing to keep on top of aphids etc this year (for once) but the entire garden is overrun with ants. I've lived here ages and never have I seen so many. Invading my pots too the blighters, even the ones on a shelf in the potting shed. Grrrr. |
