Little info about seeds i bought from the above company. Just finished soaking them for 24 hrs, here's the results. JBP approx 100 seeds 6 floated. Mugo pumillo 104 seeds 20 floated. Dahurian larch 400 seeds 80-90 floated. I'll give the Larch seeds another 24 hrs soaking, see if more sink. I'll update this thread, with germination results later, as i'll try 3 different potting compounds. |

I bought some Scots Pine from them last week too, instructions were limited but I'll keep you all posted on how it goes |

I purchased some larch seeds online, not necessarily from the same company, and I had zero germination success |

Jay It's better to buy young whips a few years old, you will have better results. Chris Thomas is a great source for these, he is at many shows, including Swindon on the 23rd Feb |

As Paul says above you can pick up some good young plants at the shows which are good starter trees and at fair prices. You can get larch, scots pine , beech ,hawthorn whips on line ,mainly bare rooted up to about march time and generally around a pound each. |

I've had a bunch of different seeds from treeseedonline and all have had very good germination ratios. As an aside, I had 20 red pine seeds from Canada. Not so many but couldn't get them in the UK from anyone. 7 sank so I thought what the hell and stratified them all. 15 came up, good & strong. It seems crazy to me to ditch seed at the first hurdle now. I also had a lot of mountain hemlock from ebay, many sank but none germinated, ymmv! Growing from seed sure is fun, and also challenging. |
