Such a shame.

Its still alive, so If you're into regrowing there may be an opportunity over a good number of years. Or you may be able to get a good stylist to redesign the tree for you (or do it yourself) and make something new and different from it. As you've lost one side you could lean it in that direction and redesign what remains into a slanting trunk style. Perhaps 3 years to something nice to look at if not show worthy. Or if not, just sell it on to someone who has either of those things in mind.

I must confess I thought, from your description, that your Shishigashira was going to be a bare stump. It actually looks like it could get back to something lovely in not too many years?

What an awful accident, makes me wonder what ticking timebombs are growing around our house~?

I feel gutted for you Will. At least you know someone who can help the long rebuilding road. Good luck.

Will. I've just read about your disaster, and want to add my sincere condolences
to all the others posted here. We all know what it's like, when wiring a tree, to
accidentally bend too much and crack a branch, so most of us have some little
idea of what you are going through - but nothing can compensate for the terrible
damage done to your beautiful maple. I do hope you will be able to re-think the
whole tree - necessity is the mother of invention - and, who knows, develop
a new design which over the years will be every bit as delightful and artistically
outstanding as the damaged one was.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck Will, On the upside- at least it didn't happen whilst you were tending your trees or the outcome could have been far worse :202thumbdown: :202thumbdown:
