You know I was just sat here thinking the very same thing seems everyone has moved over to Facebook ;-) I think the 26+ views and only my response speaks volumes :1crybaby:

I've been thinking the same. In fact due to the lack of activity here, I've been looking at facebook instead, and if other folks are doing the same, it's compounding the problem, isn't it?

I much prefer this format to facebook due to the more structured approach (IMHO), but clearly not everyone does. I personally post much less than I used to, but in my case it's simply because life / work etc is much busier.

It's that time of year plus a lack of events.

Hi
I ag.ree with Paul.

Another factor is the stop on new recruits, due to mega amounts of spamming

John has tried a few times to open the site up, each time we receive literally hundreds of spammers.

I much prefer it here to FB. The spammer problem was not one I fully understood.

I assume it requires someone to be vigilant in preventing them from coming aboard? That obviously requires some degree of time spent, which should somehow be paid for? Is that the issue?

I think there should be some sort of notice sent from weetrees when there is a new post etc. That's the only way to get noticed again. Either an email or a link to FB or similar? Sounds like we need some IT advice?

Hi
Just to elucidate, last time John opened the membership, we had well over 100 spam applications overnight.

Anyone wanting to join wee trees, goes through admin, where we check them against an database. We use stop forum spam. this has a massive database of known spammers with their ip address. If they are flagged up, they are removed.

It has always been a problem, and John has tried various ways to catch them at registration, like setting a simple question, that a machine would not be able to answer, but it seems that many of these spammers are indeed human!

If any of you have any ideas on how to stop these pests contact John Farnan either by email or PM
