I nominate some of the members to go out to the waiting visitors and sell them in the cafe and queue. Then all you have to do is walk in and show the band on your wrist when it is open. We did look at early bird booking and online entry booking, but that just costs too much and we are always trying to keep the costs down to the visitors. Of course you could always do a display, then you get in at 8am |

How do you select trees for the show? I have been to a few shows (not as many as I'd like), but never saw an explanation of why or how a specific tree is chosen (allowed) for the show. |

It is a club show and the Committee select who to invite, usually from seeing trees displayed at shows and knowing that the owners are good growers. Once the invites go out they have a 6ft table and backdrop to play with, what they do is up to them, that way they can play with what they want to display and how it will look at it's best. We did try a few years ago to invite growers to send in tree pictures...... like they do for 'Expo' where the best trees and a selection of different species are selected..........but all I got were a lot of poor quality trees and a lot more work for me hahaha We aren't trying to be elitist, as we like a spectrum of trees for the Winter show, visitors like this variety.....so I try and bring in some NEW exhibitors every year as an encouragement to improve peoples ability to display.......... [Just ask Will ] He did a display and you would be hard to select it from most of the other displays, all the new exhibitors stepped up and did a good job. SOOOOOO...... I am always looking for anyone who has a nice tree that looks good in a Winter Image, doesn't have to be deciduous??? A few people send me a photo and details and if I have a spare table I try and fit them in. The hall at the Grange centre is only so big and those wanting to display or trade fight over the spaces HAHAHA Being a Winter show you can't hide any tree problems when there are no leaves. Brendan, if you have a tree that you think is good in Winter Image, contact me via the Swindon website, but all the tables are now allocated for the next show in 2025 |
