Saw something similar to this last year whilst fishing on my local river not on the same scale but the whole tree was covered in spiders webs which was in turn full of what looked like spiders eggs if that's a good description. I spoke to the ranger at work and he thought it was the work of some kind of moth. If it happens again this year I will pack my camera along with my fishing flies and get some photo's.
