Dear All.. I've put this in general chit chat as it relates to one of my Big Trees ! Yesterday I spotted a lot of wet sap on the leaves of a much loved Bloodgood that is container grown in my garden.. ( By no means Bonsai at 4ft tall with a 5-6ft canopy spread) ... Closer inspection revealed little blackfly/aphids on the underside of some of the leaves. Like Clarke Kent in the phone booth I leapt in to action with a pump up sprayer filled with water and washing up liquid (gently aggitated on Daryls advice seen up here a couple of days ago) , this I used to get all the underside of the leaves, then I drenched from on top with a similarly filled watering can. This morning ... not one of the little blighterss remain, though I will be on aphid watch incase they reappear. Reason for the post is to thank everyone who shares such knowledge up here, as a year ago I would probably have parted with £££'s at the garden centre and used a load of nasty chemicals. For reference I use the Ecover washing up liquid, and as it doesn't foam nearly as much as "leading brands" it was very easy to spray on to the tree. Rory Happiest fiddling with trees. |

Superb buddy :) thats what forums are for. Sometimes we use the knowlege in a way we never expected we would. It would have cost a small fortune and a very sore pump hand to do this with a proprietory product. I like them but this way works well if you get it quick mind and keep and eye out for re infestations as the eggs hatch John |

Again thank you Gents.. rest assured as the Bloodgood was a gift from my now departed mum to my very much alive and kicking wife my whole future depends on watching out for this tree... I was on it again twice today squishing the few little blighters that seemed to have clung on or moved in during the day. (all neighbouring plants treated in the same way too) Rory |
