It seems to me that this variation in what people think a piece of material is worth explains why a tree such as the one that Gwen recently highlighted could be put on ebay for such a high price. The seller is hopeful that someone will be willing to pay that much. Some people may think it is worth nothing but someone else may be willing to pay £100s for it.

I wasn't too far on the first three but I was off on the pine and malus. I enjoyed this thread.

Well I overpriced them all other than the Malus, I was between £15-60 over on the top four and I underpriced the Malus by £20-30. Big thanks to Mike for planning and getting the results together, it does clearly show that the more experienced growers/artsists/bonsai'ers have a better idea of what trees should sell for, notice I didn't say " worth " there. The other aspect of buying is the buyer, I hopefully have another 40-50 years in Bonsai, when I'm buying material at the minute it's looking at the tree and planning 5-10 years worth on it. As I've mentioned before I don't want to maintain somebody else's design, I want as much artistic input into the tree as possible, to hopefully visualise and learn about the tree from the get go. In the short time I've been in Bonsai I can clearly see my opinions and views changing. I imagine they will change a lot more in the future and I'll probably look back on think " what were you doing Mikey ". To me a bonsai tree and bonsai'ing is a journey, not a destination. The pleasure for me is kicking back with a beer and toying with my trees, with a bit of luck and time they may look half decent. I must say though it's down to the forum and it's members that I have progressed in Bonsai, in my brief sabbatical from the site I found my interest waining, and since coming back I've become a lot more excited.

Again big thanks Mike :30clap2:

I don't think my anxiety could handle the classroom situation fella, I went to a hairdressers last week for the first time in 12 years. I'd had a few but it was still very awkward for me. I've got the nod for Swindon off the missus so I will see how I get on there. :smallthumb:

Leon on here as also pointed out a local Bonsai place near me is good so I should go see him too. I'm really not a sociable person at all :32crazy:

Sorry mate, I didn't realise you had such anxieties. My best friend was like that for years. Not scared of going outside but scared of places with lots of people. Its been a slow and steady climb to recovery but he's getting there and im sure you will to matey. One step at a time and not before your ready.

I couldn't agree more Mikey. I find this especially true during the winter/dormancy months.

Also, thank you for taking the time and effort Mike on this thread: it's incredibly useful.
