Well last night here in not so bloody sunny Cornwall we had really strong blustery showers. These blustery showers packed enough wind to blow off 3 trees from my shelves ( larch, my cherry from a previous post, & trident maple) Luckily all trees were wired in to there pots & not a single pot was broken. But with in the drop & the force of the landing an awful lot of soil was thrown out off the pot exposeing lots of roots, for how long I have no idea. I have obviously refilled said pots trying not to damaged the exposed white roots to the best of my ability. Could you please advise me on how to treat these trees now. I've put them on to floor level (gravel chippings) out of the wind, I haven't watered as it's still bloody raining but what should I do regarding feeding in the future ect. Many thanks, ooh I think the sun is coming out.

Hi All my trees are tied to the benches. This stops the wind blowing them off. I use wire threaded through the pot holes, and wrapped around the slats on my bench. It gets pretty windy here in Leeds so this is a necessity. There is nothing more to do with your trees, carry on as normal. |

At least if it was raining the roots won't have been too dried out. Hope they're OK. |

No worries. This drives home the importance of wiring trees into their pots. Well done for doing it. Just replace the missing media and the trees will not know they went walkabout during the night. Incidentally, VERY windy and wet during the night here in the Midlands. |

Thanks guy's n girl's, that's reassuring to know I've done the right thing. It's time to change the way I put them on the shelf & cross my fingers that they pull through. |

Hi, if you are concerned about the ones that blew over or if anyone reading this thread has similar concerns it's easy enough to treat them as having had some root disturbance and follow your normal regime of watering once and letting them dry,not feeding and keeping the humidity up for a few weeks depending on how much disturbance they've had . If anyone is at all worried.
