Superthrive. Is it all that or is it just snake oil ?? Are there any other substitutes that members have used such as B1 tablets ?

I used it once but did not see any significant improvement in growth or health in any of my trees over my normal fertilizer, which I have been using over the past 5 years.

Superthrive is not a fertiliser. It is a vitamin supplement. No VISIBLE difference to trees.

Superthrive hovers around the irrational end of the spectrum. I usually give one dose of S when I repot, on the grounds that it contains vitamins, which can't do any harm and quite possibly can do some good. I never see any noticeable 'thriving', but of course I never know what the tree would have done without the stuff.

It makes me feel a bit better to do it, and I suppose that's it.

I'm with you, John. I know some bonsai artists use it. If I know it does no harm and it may do good (even if we can't see it) then it's OK with me.

Liquid seaweed seems to hit the spot on feed spectrums. If you have a hydroponics place nearby go and have a chat with them. There's all sorts similar to s/thrive that's cheaper and often designed to target specific growth requirements - roots, flowers, soft growth or everything. The bloke near me is a gold mine of info on plant nutrition.

I also use fish emulsion during the growing season but it is not interchangeable with Superthrive.
