Can anyone tell me what's wrong with my tree? I put a thread on here a few weeks ago regarding the fact it was unkempt looking. Well I was advised to pinch out the new shoots. At the time not all of shoots had opened fully so I thought I'd wait a week or so till they were all fully opened. There are loads of shoots near the top which have not moved on,little clusters of small leaves which should have opened a while ago.Why do I have a horrible feeling this is serious! I enclose a pic from over two weeks ago,you can see the small clusters They are still much the same only a bit more green

any chance of a close up? I've been tending all my maples today and even though I'm very alert to little mites etc. I've noticed I have a few blackfly/Aphids so I've sprayed mine (have you checked under the leaves)

Aphids are a problem with Maples. I, personally, wouldn't worry unless you plan to show it. It looks healthy enough despite the mis-shapen leaves. They may not be fully developed yet.

Its more of a problem when the leaves fail to come out by the summer......... Then you know you are in trouble!

Well I've checked the tree and can't see any sign of beasties.I have another one and it's been fully out for weeks now (they move at the same time usually) This tree didn't behave like this last year all the leaves were out by now and it had a rounder appearance instead of 'tufts'. Nick you say if the leaves aren't out by Summer then worry, what would the problem be do you think.Any advice appreciated.I don't want to lose this tree.God I hate maples,so temperamental.

Cheers

I would be inclined to inspect the roots.

It's only early May...I've got several maples that are still leafing out.

Thanks Jerry that makes me feel better.I'll keep an eye on it and maybe check the roots if there's still no movement in the next few days

My Deshojo looked very sickly for a couple of weeks after repotting (leaves limp and week looking) half thought it was going to pop is clogs. Last week it perked up and is looking fine now . Fingers crossed yours will pick up too.

Thanks Olly glad your tree is ok Once again that's made me feel a lot more hopeful I'll just keep checking it.They're like babies, get a lot of TLC and when they're not well you worry

Cheers
