Its not often that i see a plant and don't think i can make a bonsai out of it. This is one of them. I think i would make a person out of it with legs like that. |

Root over rock seems just about the only viable option for it. I'm afraid I don't know anything about this species but I'm sure others will help ! |

The first thing that strikes me is what an ugly pot, Not sure what material it is in but a repot would be top of my priority. A nice Bonsai pot would make a big difference and you can provide more suitable substrate at same time. As these are indoor plants here, then a repot anytime would be OK, no need to wait for spring. You might at same time find a more interesting position / angle. I cannot suggest much about the roots and it might be difficult to match a rock to it, it might look contrived and artificial. I would concentrate to growing out some branches. You can of course check out the root and rock options when its out of the current pot. |

Thanks very much for all of the responses! Although I still don't really know what to do with it. I'll go ahead and pre-pot it and try and grow out some branches, I thought about maybe training it to cascade down - to almost camouflage one side of the root legs. I'll also spend the rest of my days trying to find a suitable rock - don't want to choose that too hasty. oh and BrendanJ its not a pot as such its in a glass, that ugliness is probably the sight of the soil. I believe it too be a derivative of akadama. So at least after I repot it I'll have a smart new drinking glass. |
