SOS

Can anyone help me understand why the leaves are gone all brown / beige colour.

They live outdoors , I water once a week, I have given a bonsai watered down feed.

I did trim the tree about 2 weeks ago.

I'm new to keeping these so any help will be useful.

I would be watering much more frequently at this time of year. Daily when needed.

Sounds like it to me, I've got two and they like to stay wet, I've missed a watering and the edge of the leaves get crispy.

Hi, if it's pot bound it may not be getting enough water. If you have trimmed a lot off it may have lost a lot of strength. If it's still alive, slip it into a bigger pot, not too much larger, till next spring. Use plenty of peat in the soil mix and put it in humid shade in amongst other garden plants. If it responds well don't feed it but do water it with a third of a gallon of water with 5ml. of distilled white vinegar added once a fortnight. And keep your fingers crossed.

:idea::

Don't water by schedule, water by need. A week in this weather for even the driest loving trees seems long. These trees are very thirsty

Thanks for all your help. Would it be fair to say this time of year I should water daily or alternate days ? Also is it good to give bonsai feed semi regular ?

I water all my redwoods TWICE a day, especially when it's warm. Once a week will kill it. They will tolerate the cold but they will not tolerate drying out.

I use Naruko fertiliser on all my trees. So they are fed every time water descends through the potting media. The redwoods seem to love it.

These newbies illustrate the need for basic sound horticultural practices and learning tree husbandry to keep their plants from dying.
This is essential before one can even think about applying Bonsai techniques such as pruning and wiring.
