Post subject:  Few of my new projects

I've managed to buy a few new trees over the last few weeks mainly as project but also to build my collection.
Firstly a Trident from Greenwoods, needs a few years growth so just feeding to thicken up.

Picked this up from a carboot, it was being sold as a Maple but not sure what it is (anyone know), again just feeding to thicken growth also though it may give me some carving practice at some point.

A hornbeam i got a few weeks ago, needs a repot and was hoping to try leaf cutting to reduce the size of them, has anyone any info on their success?
Image

My Elm i layerd last year, just left the stump and didn't really think it would push out any growth. just feeding heavily to try and form a new branch structure also need a repot at some point as its just been neglected.

Oh and my large Maple is being worked on, i am chasing back the folage to promote a new branch structure and eventually change its shape.

Any advice would, as always, be greatly appreciated.

The amur maple is great in it's Autumn colours. Some good projects there Clint and a nice mix of species. The hornbeam has a tendency to blanket the tree with leaves a bit like Beech so I partial leaf cut to allow light to get to inner buds. Keep it well hydrated otherwise the leaf edges burn in prolonged hot weather - put it in shade if possible til temps reduce.

good stuff. i like the look of the hornbeam though it could do with a bit more soil? if you don't mind me asking, whats the tall straight one with the nice bark in the pic with the big maple?

Looks very interesting, good luck.

Hornbeam is pretty tough, copes well with mild pruning any time of year in my experience, but no heavy pruning just yet...

This is assuming that it is currently vigorous... Maybe it needs to settle in to a bigger pot first....
