Hi all,
There are a number of lovely copper beeches around locally, but also another copper-leaved species which I can't work out. Leaves are less delicate than beech. I'm trying to take a layer off a branch overhanging my boundary. With permission of course.
Any ideas what it is? Thanks a lot!

i think it's a dark leaved prunus variety, possibly Prunus cerasifera nigra.

Thanks guys! Prunus - so obvious now that you say it.

I haven't noticed flowers or berries, so will have to learn to be more observant.

It should have small pink flowers in spring, usually in May in the Uk. Might be slightly later for you as your further north
