Just a curious observation - my little oak sapling has still not lost all of its leaves... Is it confused by our weird winter? ::dunno:

(Yes, its permanent home is outside, no protection...)

Walked past a normal size Oak the otherday with its leaves still on - there is an evergreen variety apprently - and noticed this afternoon one of the seedlings in the garden, just one mind, has its leaves - must have picked up an acorn at some point - eaither that or its the mild weather.....

Quercus ilex is evergreen but the young ones have spines like Holly which seem to disappear with maturity.

The odd weather has resulted in many of my potted oaks keeping their leaves. I have about 7. 3 are in ddep pots with loads of organic soil as they are recently collected and they are still in leaf.

The ones in shallow pots with cat litter are bare.

I expect the coming week to shift the last few green leaves, but the longer they are green the longer they are producing food for the tree, and that can't be a bad thing in England.
