I don't think it's a pine but always have a try. Some of the most imposing trees have found their way into pots from similar places. If it's free, it is always worth it. |

Spruce. These can be difficult, and I have had no luck with them. I have seen some lovely spruce bonsai though. |

I agree it looks like Spruce to me. It will be best to lift it out of the ground when it's dormant through the Winter. These can be very thirsty trees but saying that they don't like water logged conditions so use a good free draining soil mix and then you can give it a good soaking. Cheers Nigel. |

They're not the easiest of trees to transplant - mine's in it's second season and just showing a few signs of vigour. |

Can't say no to a potential free 3-4" trunk. Go for it. |
