personally id leave it at that

it looks quite immature and in training

I would consider cutting needles in half - yes it will turnt he ends brown but will allow more light in and encourage more back budding

I've never thought of that before but it makes good sense, thanks!

if you want to understand the process of JBP I highly recommend getting the bonsai Boon Dvds on JBP, I have recently come to aquire them and it makes everything so easy to understand and very informative, I was very confused with pine before I watched the Dvds, they are great, but be warned they arent cheap, the entire set are around $280 US i think. but they cover absolutely everything on black pine, both trees in training, or mature "finished" trees, the dvds include repotting, candle and needle techniques, wiring processes, styling and wiring of pines, autumn maintenance and one other i cant think of right now.

well worth it if you can save your pennies, or maybe your club might have a copy of it that you could borrow.

Does needle cutting apply to other pines as well, or just Black?
It's the first time ever that I have come across this suggestion.
