Hi all,
Picked this Mugo up from local garden centre for £15 with decent 1.5 inch trunk. I've cleared out all small dead branches and needles and removed some soil to reveal more of the trunk. It has lots of branches and I know it's difficult from the photo to see what's going on inside. Is my only option a broom style incorporating a jin? Can anyone suggest styling advice for this garden centre Mugo?
Thanks, jay

Jin the left hand branch over winter and develop the tree from the thicker, right hand part, above the right turn. Keep turning to even out new growth.

Maybe something like this? Or a windswept using the same trunkline?

I tend to agree with Don on this one. The left hand side needs reduction and compacting or jinning. It might just be a little too thick to use live which is probably why Don suggested a jin.

Thanks for the advice chaps. Think I'll jin the entire left side and maybe tilt the planting angle slightly to the left also.

Pines tolerate a lot of bending, ans so the styling options are quite significant.

Let's see a load more pics from all sides before you start cutting stuff off and jinning branches?

Beware of the sap when you cut . You will probably need to seal the wound ( water doesn't work ) other wise it will leave white weeping sap marks all over the tree .

Sorry about all the pics. Any more styling suggestions would be great. The trunk and where it splits, I think are too large to manipulate. I will get the cut paste out. I was too lazy. Thanks, Jay
