Have you looked at the underside of the leaves? Is it patchy colours underneath as well? Are there any tiny bugs?

Pop a rusty nail on the medium surface. It will do no harm, even if not needed.

I like your thinking will this help ?

definitely not chlorosis. how much are you feeding? with those very dark and shiny leaves, a nitrogen overdose was first thing that came to mind but ive never seen that myself on a chinese elm.

I wonder if this could be tiny mites or a fungal infection. I'd be tempted to spray for both these and if it makes no difference go for a full defoliation which CE will cope with. Are there any new leaves emerging and are they suffering?

It doesnt have much new growth atm gary tbh has a few shots that dont look infected maybe I have fed to much but I only go by the back of the tub, I was going to stop feeding them now as much as its winter then resume in spring is this wise ? And would you reccomend defoliation ? I had to defoliate it at the start of the summer as I had a suspected black spot this poor lil tree haha

Fertiliser is to support foliar growth which will slow down or stop in winter so no need to fertilise at this time. You can leave the leaves for now but if it doesn't get better when new leaves emerge in the spring defoliation is one possible solution - no guarantee of course. Hopefully the spray will do the trick.
