Hi

I have this trio of young maple trees. Two years in a swallow pot. Now I have regrets about my choice of soil at the time: too organic. There is not much growth but the trees are healthy. The roots are not filling the pot for sure. So my plan is to replant in the same pot with a more mineral soil.

Now...

Because I will not need to reduce the roots bowl, do you think I could already do that change or should I wait spring time nonetheless

PS: i have a greenhouse so potentially could keep that in a frost free environment

Hi

If you are not cutting anything, but just repotting, you could do it now, but just before bud break would be better.

If it's more growth you want then a larger pot would probably provide greater benefit than inorganic soil. You can slip pot now without issue.

Bonsai-ing is a constant test to my patience and it seems that, on this occasion, I have the right to be impatient!

Thank you Keith and Peter, I will be repotting my Japanese maple trio this weekend then
