Have procrastinated a bit about getting the rest of the wiring done as suggested by NickB, but I can see the tips of the shaving brushes so it was now or never. Part of the reason of procrastinating was just because I didn't know what to do exactly. It occurred to me though that i could have a go and then post up the results, and hopefully someone can offer some feedback or tips. I've tried to bring the foliage down a bit, and make the small branches more wiggly. I can already see some straight sections that need addressing.

Looks kinda crap in the wide shot, it's more interesting in the flesh - less straight, less flat. I also snipped off the straight top section. I'll try to grow a new leader from one of the top buds on that highest branch on the right, from that bit that's wired upright. I'll tweak the angle when the branches start extending.. :

The branches now follow a consistent angle which is good.

I sense there should be a "but" at the end of that? XD

.... but somebody else might have more to contribute. That's all. I like it - good job.

Hahah, cool, thanks. I'm open to criticism if anyone has any though! I know there's a couple of scruffy bits etc though.

Thought I'd post an update on this one as I de-wired it yesterday as I noticed it starting to cut in.

Thinking it looks a bit fat at the top, and wondering about either picking a new leader from a bit lower, or doing some carving. The top left branch is a bit too thick, straight, and has a dead bit, so had my eye on that one for a jin. Any suggestions?

Yeah it does look a bit chunky up there doesn't it? I vote picking a new leader, maybe that third branch up

I kinda feel like the height of the tree is a redeeming feature, but I can also see there is a case for developing it from the third branch up as Sizzla says. Either way, yes I definitely think doing something in the apical region is going to improve the tree.

I don't think I would jin the heavy branch, I would remove it and either heal it or create a small shari. I can't really justify that feeling, I just know that it would be my choice if it was my tree :)

I'd go for removing the over thick short top branch but I'd also like to see some taper so would suggest cutting back to the third of fourth branch to redevelop the top.

Thanks for the advice guys. I suppose I can work on the principle that I can always take more off later, but I can't easily add more in - I'll try removing the top left branch first and see how it looks. If I'm not happy, I can pick a new leader.
