Just uncovered a scar on a CE got this yr
after flattening down the soil it was hidden from view
Anyone know what may have happened?
Is it a old scar from careless mass production that has not heal?
What to do next ...clean off and hope it heals?

Hi

It looks like something has eaten it. Have you checked the rootball?

It could be slug damage, or even vine weevil.

Will check roots wen I repot
as u can see from pic I've scrapped off some black stuff witch I think is old soil!!
I will clean off the rest and treat with paste
Do u think that is the best course of action?
Thanks for the info

The edges look like clean cuts. I wonder if it is a failed attempt to grow some roots there, to balance out the trunk. If you would like some roots there you could re-cut it and cover it with a good layer of sphagnum moss with more medium on top to keep the moss in contact with the cut. Keep it moist for the rest of the season and you might get some new roots there.
