Dear Bonsai Gurus, I found this hazel growing in the side of a split log (I think dropped by squirrels) in my parents garden last September. I planted it in a small pot and have kept it on a window sill through the winter with no problems. In April I moved it out onto my balcony and now a couple of months later it seems to have developed these dry faded leaves (see image attached). I have never grown any bonsais before and have done nothing more than put it in a shallow pot with good drainage and some soil from near where it was found growing. I would really like to try and keep it alive as I have become quite attached. Please can you help? Will it survive? Many thanks, Jack |

There seem to be new shoots. I think it will be fine. |

Hazel are deciduous so if those are last years leaves they should have dropped last autumn. It might just be a messed up calendar for the tree. I'd plant it into a free draining mix and keep it outside all year round. They grow very vigorously when happy. |
