All depends on where you are in your bonsai journey. Obviously they've a long long way to go but if you want to practice skills or trunk building any tree's a canvas (and £10 is not much). You would get better stuff free from fellow enthusiasts at a club meeting I expect.

I agree with Gary.

Both don't have any interest in the trunk. The oak would be very very slow to grow.

If you have access to a garden then maybe invest £10 in beech or hornbeam or other hedging plants that excite you and then bring them on when you can shape them from an early age. They would fatten up quite quickly in the ground.

Keep the best for individual trees and the rest can become a forest

I would buy the oak and in early Feb I'd chop it off about 3 inches from the ground.

As a fellow beginner, I'd recommend that you look out for cotoneaster and lonicera, maybe berberis too for getting stuck in and getting your hands dirty. Stuff like this is more for long term projects imo

You'll get a stronger response from the chop if you don't repot, in my opinion
