Great advice, thanks, Paul. I will get back to it straight away then and maybe just wire the older wood without going right to the ends with last year’s softer growth. Makes perfect sense, thanks. I’ll see what I can do. Might have to take you to the shed with me! |

Hi I note you live by the sea.. I live in Seaford and when I moved realised some trees and plants hate it and some are fine... Any advice on best species? Hope you don't mind me asking. Paolo |

Hi Paolo, for some reason I have only just seen your post although it is dated 23 March. The email notification only came this morning. Very odd. Anyway, I won’t sidetrack this thread discussing life in Sussex by the Sea but will send you a PM. I also noticed that this was only your second post so hopefully forum rules will allow me to message you. If not you will have to post a few more comments to get your posts up to 5 |

Hi Daryl I did get your message reply (thank you very much), but couldn't reply directly as haven't participated enough (I believe)... Been in Seaford 2 years and I'm right near the sea so leaf scorch from wind/salt is a challenge.. But I love it here.. I have noted the species you mentioned that work and yes Acers are not good for me here as shelter is hard... Thank for getting back to me and sorry I couldn't reply directly... I also note that Olives (although not native) seem fine as do Hawthorn which are... I did have a blackthorn that was great but then got hit in a really bad windy salty storm last Autumn and didn't come back this Spring, but will try again if I can find one as there are lots of native blackthorns in railway hedging around here so they should be ok to survive/thrive in theory... Take care and any tips greatly appreciated... Paolo |

It has been a real joy to follow your work on the larch ('John's larch'), Daryl. I look in every now and then to see how my baby is getting on, and it's getting on just fine. I think the wiring work you are doing is excellent, and I also like very much the view from above which shows the all-round spread of the branches. It's going to be a good tree! J. |
