In that last pic I'd also consider wrapping some sort of wire etc around the flying roots so that they are forced against the trunk. If you are lucky they may even fuse with the trunk.

That way they don't look like flying roots and will give you lovely trunk flare.

So how many of you still have your Chinese Elms you bought from Morrison?

I noticed the other day that the pot mine was in had broken due to the frost we encountered a few nights previously.

I slip potted it into a better quality pot but this coming spring I might either put it in the ground or a large training pot. The tree is ok but the newark is very poor so if it goes in a bigger pot I will possibly ground layer it by making the cut and planting deeper.

I haven’t got any of the three that I bought, not because they died but because they all did well and I sold them at a Bonsai Boot Sale at the Bonsai Shed last year. Small profit promptly spend on more trees :lol:
