My little Autumn Cherry is coming to the end of it's flowering period and has started to produce new leaves. Is now the time to start feeding? Or should I have been doing this during flowering?

I keep it in our unheated porch to enjoy the flowers but it will be going back outside when the warmer weather comes along.

Also - I understand not to prune it in the run up to Autumn, to preserve the flowers, but I'm not sure when is the best time to prune from a health point of view. I can find generic advice on feeding and pruning cherries but nothing specific to this particular one, so any help will be greatly appreciated.

I don't know the specific species but in general terms fertilising is to promote foliar growth by introducing nutrients when the tree has exhausted it's current supply. Now you have some growth you can start introducing some fertiliser although waiting until the growth is strong in a month or so would probably be just as effective.

Flower buds are set in late summer which is why you're advised not to prune after then. Now would be a good time in terms of structural pruning and also in late spring early summer after the leaves have hardened off.

That makes sense Gary - and thank you for your explanation. I've always struggled with this one because it flowers 'out of season' but luckily it's been very forgiving - so far!
