Good roots on that, especially for such a small tree. Acer palmatum? |

You've handled that really well. I like it a lot. |

Yes its a standard AP. It had some thicker roots higher up on the trunk that I cut off, I'm please with how its looks so far. Its a cutting and the root spread has fattened up the base a bit which was an unintended benefit |

Thanks John, I've basically just kept cutting it back all growing season favouring shorter nodes and buds..same again this season I recon, I'll let it leaf out then start the process again. |

Very nice! Would be interested to hear how you rooted the cutting, I've not had much joy with AP cuttings so far... |

Very nice. Looking forward to seeing it again after another season's development. How did you do the original cutting? |

In a mix of small grain akadama and Tescos KL 60/40 with some hormone gel applied. Then into a B and Q incubator under the bench in dappled sunlight. Trick is you want to keep them warm and humid without cooking them. I've got a few Deshojo and Arakawa JM that have rooted as well by the looks but wasn't sure until they leafed out this spring... I just try and keep them happy for as long as I can and hopefully they'll root for you. |

Thanks! I don't want to hijack your thread but have a quick follow-up question... do you take hardwood or softwood cuttings? |
