Thats a great idea! Thank you. No shortage of stones round here. There are 30 million tons of them on our beach!

I managed a few more repots today. The two acers have always been together as twins since I got them about 15 years ago. Last year I ordered a matching pair of pots for them from Walsall Ceramics.

This English elm has always been quite a vigorous little tree and should have been repotted last year but the bad weather sabotaged that plan. Still I was amazed when this much root came out of that tiny pot

A little update on the 'matching one-hole pots' trio. They all seem very happy and growing well. I'm especially pleased to see such good growth on the wisteria

Good work! Those rocks should certainly hold them in place until the new roots do the job.

What soil have you used? Looks like CL + akadama + organic?

Yes, it's one of my favourite mixes. I call it Potting Tray Scrapings

Another update.....
The wisteria grew well but then succumbed to a kind of virus that I have seen on wisteria before so it went straight in the bin as I didn't want to risk it spreading to my other, bigger wisteria :1crybaby:

The red leaved cherry has grown well and I have left it unpruned for now.

The tiny cotoneaster that sat in a plastic pot doing very little for a couple of years has now gone crazy and apparently isn't a small leaved variety  I've cut it back a couple of times already and I've been removing the larger leaves but I'm not sure that it is going to stay as a mame size tree for much longer.

This English elm has had a bad year. I did some fairly major branch removal to get rid of groups of branches emerging at the same point and beginning to make some lumpy inverse taper. It left the tree looking a bit two dimensional but really needed to be done. Unfortunately, the only new growth came from exactly the points where I had removed the branches. Not helpful

A few weeks ago the leaves turned rusty looking and then they all dropped off so I moved it to the sick bay in the shade and it is now re-budding! I guess it will have to have some winter protection if the new leaves don't harden off in time for the cold weather.
