Hey, So I repotted my gingko, which I bought in a nursery at an incredible price but its pot was tiny and the soil was fully organic. A bit more than a week ago, I have repotted it in a much bigger pot and in a great soil too. When I checked my greenhouse trees today, I noticed that a new shoot appeared...at the base. Any gingko experts out there? Is this the sign that there could be plenty more to come at the base? A quick google image search suggests that this may be how some gingko grow? Or is this just an « anomaly » and I can rather encourage growth on the main trunk. |

If it's right at the base then keep it as a sacrifice to beef it up a bit. Popping at the base isn't an anomoly for Ginkgo - they do it all the time. A strong Ginkgo will backbud well after a chop. It's quite a small trunk - what are you planning for it? |

Thanks Paul. My initial plan was to leave to grow this year and maybe have it as an informal broomstick. |
