Hey,

As some of you may have seen, I have been working on a huge beech forest. 21 trees ranging from 7 years old to 3 years old. The forest is now in full leaves and looking better than I hoped. Which makes me already think ahead: some Spring in a year or two or three, it'd be great to see this forest in a bonsai pot.

Because of its size (90cm long, 60cm wide, 25cm of soil on the "hill" - 10cm on the sides), I have no doubt that it would need to be bespoke. Apart from that obvious matter, who has experience in huge projects like that? What tips do you have when it comes to pots?

Please note that I do not intend to transport this forest anywhere. It's for my own pleasure to see every day.

Hi Ben. My first thought is that very few pot makers would have a kiln large enough plus a silly price. Could you get a slate base and build a wall from slate garden chips using a black silicone type sealant as adhesive ?

Thank you Richard,
TBH This is not the look I am hoping to go for but you know, if that's the only reasonable choice... If it comes to that, I will be asking a lot more questions on how to from where to buy such a large slate to how to drill and prepare the walls

Nah. Not me. But you have the video and the dimensions - message me when it's done! ;-)

It'd like a stained yellow colour if that's not pushing...

Old slate fire hearths on eBay can go for sub £30 if you are willing to collect, I'd imagine from that you could chip away to get a natural finish but retain the flat bottom. I'd imagine drill with a tile drill bit.

You've seen my beech forest. Steve at chinamist made the slab. Something like that would also work well for yours I think. For a forest group which can represent a larger piece of terrain I think a landscape look is helpful - gentle undulation and an understated pot side (a slab!)
