Well it has been hot! And what better way to cool down than to go naked!

Don't you just love a naked tree

First an Acer that needed some wiring and pruning to improve its overall shape

Next a mame oak that had grown some very large leaves that were shading out the inner branches.

And a mame acer that needs a second flush of smaller leaves and hopefully some back budding to improve ramification. I'm thinking of changing the planting angle on this one at the next repot.

And last one, a small trident grown from a cutting, that should benefit from a second flush of new leaves and some mid summer pruning.

Anyone else want to show off some nakedness?

So many deciduous bonsai look so much better naked. The leaves often totally obscure the structure underneath. I don't have any old enough to defoliate. Though I do have a fig that I did. Earlier.

It the one job I hate doing but it’s the most satisfactory tbh ;-)

I tend to thin out all the leaves at the top of the trees. Not strictly naked.. maybe you could call it topless??

I don't have one to post, just wanted to say that I love the pots you are using.

Cracking trees there, I think I like the two palmatums the best

@Will, I'm the opposite. It's one of my favourite jobs and I have to resist the urge to strip them all!

Anyone else got some to show? Topless or the full Monty?

This is a mame-sized native Dogwood, Cornus sanguinea. The three trunks are root-connected. I'm working on developing the finer twigging.

I like that shape. How long have you been working on it to reach this stage?
