Ive just separated my first air layer of the year.
I started this in mid May on an overgrown bush in my garden, removing a 1 inch ring of bark, dusted with hormone powder and filled the pot with mixture of garden moss and cat litter then watered well and wrapped the pot in cling film.
On checking it tonight I pot found it was literally full of roots!

I decided as its a cool damp evening to go for it and severed the branch with a pair of loppers!

I then pruned it back to a more manageable size and potted it in a mix of Cat litter and Akadama -lets hope it survives!

Should I prune this back any further now or leave it well alone?

Wow, that was a good success rate in a short time.

Personally I would leave well alone as I did with mine.

I'd leave well alone to let it establish. They are however very resilient and tough trees and it's likely to be strong and vigorous fairly soon.

Great result! Well done :30clap2: That looks like a lovely trunk for a future tree.

Good result. Make sure it is tied down tight as those roots are fleshy and prone to breaking. Leave it alone until next year.

Thanks everyone Ive made sure its securely wired into the pot, put it in a shaded spot and will leave it to establish till next year.

Here is an updated photo of the Pyracantha I air layered last year.
It now has masses of flower buds- should I let it flower and produce berries this year or clip them off and channel its energy into building new ramification?
