I have a nice olive that I bought middle of last year. In the last couple of weeks it has just taken off (see below) and is starting to over shadow lower leaves and they are going yellow and dropping. Looking at an article on the Kaizen website, it suggests leaving any pruning until August. I'm assuming a few weeks won't make a huge amount of difference and I could prune now? Before this prune, any comments you have would be appreciated. Pic... Attachment: Olive.jpg Tim |

Nice healthy tree And best part is the chunky trunk and taper, but.... I have had trees like this that I feel leaf canopy is too full, like a green lollipop and of course this ultimately means inner leaves and lower leaves die off. The answer I think is to thin it out by reducing branches right back to there source, not just lopping off leaves. I believe the phrase is to allow the "birds to fly through the branches" Expose the branches, develop proper ramification, create interest and create a real tree form Then it will be a cracker !! Good luck |

Brendan Many thanks for the response. Looking at the article by Kaizen, think I'll prune some of the extended branches of the next few weeks, then prune sometime in winter. Also bought a potting shed, so can shelter it in the winter if necessary. I've managed to acquire about 20 trees over about 2 years. Still very much learning and I suppose in some respects, nervous of making mistakes. Been doing quite a bit of research so I suppose I just need to start gaining experience. I note your in Warrington. For information, I'm based in Runcorn (how do you add location and other details to your signature?). |

Click "user control panel" in top right of screen, then "profile" and it shows fields including location Don't be too specific unless you want to reduce those 20 trees |
