I have 3 questions that I hope you may be able to answer for me.

1) I have, about a month ago, created my first ever jins on a Blaauw's juniper and a Taxus Bacatta. The branches were live when I removed the bark, so do I have to wait some time before I can apply lime sulphur to them? If so, how long should I wait?

2) I am creating a shohin lonicera from a garden centre plant I bought a couple of weeks ago. It has a dead trunk which is quite interesting . I would like to leave it on the tree. I don't know whether to remove the bark or leave it on. If I leave it on, can I still apply lime sulphur directly to the dead bark or does the bark have to go for the sulphur to work properly? Or maybe a dead trunk would look okay simply left as a dead trunk.

3) I have a ficus bonsai I bought from IKEA last year. Something caught one of the branches earlier this year without me noticing and broke it almost off, but not quite. When I did notice, and I don't know how long it had been broken, I used a tiny amount of superglue to reposition it, hoping that the sap would still be able to travel through. The leaves died off and, after about 6-8 weeks, there is no sign of new buds forming so I guess it is dead. It looks nice, though, as a dead branch. It's too slender to take the bark off. Can I use lime sulphur on it to make it stand out as a feature?

Thank you in advance for any advice you can give me.

There are people on here that have more bonsai experience than I do. However here is my thoughts based on what I have learnt so far and from many years of gardening experience.

1. If you watch a U tube demo you will often see LS applied shortly after the jin etc has been made. My opinion of that is its too soon as the edge of the live bark has not had any time to heal (think of it like cutting yourself) and there 'could' be a danger of further die back from the open wound. A few days and the wood should be drying. This is the practice I use but others may tell you different.

2. Personally I would not use LS on a Lonicera, for no other reason than the colour of the bark and the LS will look similar. I made this mistake a few years ago on a privet. Personally I would use a darker wood treatment.

3. Sorry but Ficus is not a plant I am familiar with.

Lonicera is soft and rots. You will have to use wood preserver on the deadwood. You will have to remove the bark. Although you will see it probably just flakes off on its own.
