Brought the year b4 last. Some may recognise it (corin)?

3/4 of the way up some branches were taken off before i got it and it has left some pretty big swelling. I'm wanting to do something to soften the look of it.

I'm not sure what would be the best way to deal with it. I suppose i could cut below the swelling or make a hollow there? They are the only two things of i can think of doing....

Cutting would of been my last option.

The area is around the back of the circle

Any Advice would be appreciated. More food for thought the better.
Cheers Lee

I'd rather carve and not cut it. Not that a bit of time couldn't produce a new leader just seems a shame as it has the basic shape to work on.

difficult one this - on one hand I would say you could nibble some of it away possibly on one side, but the Arakawa maples can suffer from weakness at the top of the tree if this work is done, so think long and hard before doing it.

Is it less noticable if you change the front just a little, often this would be the best solution, although I dont see the bulge as very obvious problem at the moment, and it may get less noticabel as the tree grows - you never know

Have you taken this to a club meet yet? Dave maybe able to offer advice as may others. One thing for sure though keep it away from Dave when he has cutters (of any sort) in his hand!

yeah i've taken it before paul but it was regarding the hollow. At the time the (lump) didn't bother me. But as times gone on it has started to. Corin suggested to turn it round so it wasn't on view.If if i didn't bother me so much i could do just that but it does. Also it has a nice lean towards the veiwer with the side of the lump.

I've not let Dave near any of my trees and dont intend too
